About the Library

Mission: To provide appropriate materials and personal assistance, which will help produce lifelong learners who read for pleasure and information.

Resource Time: Students at New London Academy visit the library twice a week for a scheduled class.  During these visits, the students may listen to a story, have a lesson on some aspect of using the library, do digital choiceboards in my Canvas course or have an author study. They also check out books. With the permission of their classroom teacher, students may visit the library during unscheduled times of the day to renew, check out another book, or do research.

Circulation: Students in preschool, kindergarten and first grade may check out one book at a time. Second grade students may check out two books at a time, and third, fourth and fifth grade students may check out three books at a time. Overdue books must be returned before checking out more books.  Check out the books available to students by clicking here.

What's the Book About: Parents, if you wish to learn more about the books your child is reading, you can access information from these websites.  These sites are not managed or endorsed by Bedford County Schools.

eBooks: Follett eBooks are available for students and staff. You can check them out and they will automatically check themselves back in after two weeks. eBooks can be read on your computer or on the Follett E Reader app on your tablet/phone.  Check out the eBooks available to students by clicking here. Once on the site, scroll down till you see the heading eBooks. To log in for eBooks, students must use their school ID numbers as the login name and their last name as their password.

Lost/Damaged Books: Students are responsible for replacement costs of lost items. Damaged book charges will be assessed on an individual basis.

Volunteers: Parents are always welcome to help check out and shelve books in the Media Center. Volunteers are also needed for the two book fairs held each year. Volunteer qualifications include a love for children, learning and books! The hours are customized to your availability. Many volunteers work weekly, while others come on an as-needed basis.

Give Back to NLA: Little Dickens and Givens Book Store gives our school a 5% rebate on every purchase made. Just mention that you are a NLA parent and our school will receive the credit. Share the good news with your family and friends!
